The Thanksgiving Buffet

When we returned from a year on the boat, one of our family members commented that we had missed a year's worth of holidays. We said, no we didn't, we celebrated all of them!
The first major holiday on our trip was Thanksgiving, which is one of our favorites. The boat oven was too small for a turkey, so we could either roast a pheasant or go out. We went out!
Until then, we had never eaten out for Thanksgiving. But with limited space in the galley, not having to cook or clean up sounded pretty good.
We found a great little place with a buffet in charming Georgetown, South Carolina. They had a nice mix of traditional Thanksgiving food and brunch items, which we thought was perfect for the kids, who don't like turkey. Our daughter ate well, but our son only licked a piece of French toast and then declared there was nothing he liked. I still gripe about the $18 I spent for him to lick a piece of French toast!
After stuffing ourselves with turkey, pie, and all the trimmings, we headed for the outdoor bar at a fancy hotel near the marina, where the fire pit was roaring and the bartender was pouring. He made mocktails from scratch for the kids, and Danielle and I had sparkling rose. We toasted our good fortune in making it to South Carolina and hoped that warmer weather was coming soon! (The lows were in the 30s.)
Although we didn't miss out on the holidays last year, we did miss spending them with friends and family. After returning to land this year, we were happy to enjoy a home-cooked Thanksgiving dinner -- complete, of course, with an ample serving of hygge.
Happy Thanksgiving to all!
